Okay firstly I would like to tell you all that it’s not an SEO article. This is just a random article and here I would like to point some suggestions to Google. So if you wish to continue reading this article you are most welcome.
Update: I created a discussion in Gmail forum about this. I hope one of Google’s representatives will provide a reply there!
At the very first I must admit that I am a Gmail fan. I use Gmail not only for email communicating but also for many important stuffs like labeling, filtering and archiving messages. I love almost every feature of Gmail and I always save important information into the “Drafts” folder. I know there are many people like me who also love this draft feature as the process is extremely easy. I mean if you have something really important and you want to save it in Gmail (as it’s firewall is superb and quite hard for hackers to crack a Gmail account) all you have to do is to write that information in a “New Message” (after hitting the “Compose” button) and subsequently click the “Save & Close” button. It will be saved in the “Drafts” folder.
Like many others I have several accounts e.g. Bank, Payoneer, Skrill, Yahoo, IFTTT, My website, My blog, Bangla blog, Dsebdblog, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google+, etc. and I use unique credentials for every single account. As I am a normal human being with low memory storage I can’t remember all these accounts credentials e.g. Username, Email or Password. I also don’t like to save them in my notebook or diary as they can be lost and all my secured information may be compromised. So I save all these credentials in my Gmail account and of course in “Drafts” folder.
Whenever I need to login to any of these accounts and I don’t recall the Password or Username, I just take a quick glance at the Drafts folder’s message(s) and copy paste the required information. As you can realize it’s very easy procedure and I don’t have to save my Password or Email in a notebook or diary. Furthermore, it’s totally secure.
That’s why you can also use drafts folder for all your personal/important information details but…
If you accidently discard a draft message then it’s gone! I mean it will literally vanish from your Gmail. You can’t find it in Trash, Inbox, Starred or even in Important folder.
The reason I am writing this article today because I accidently discarded my “login details” Email from “Drafts” folder and I thought it’s in the Inbox. But it was not there. Then I searched in Trash, Spam, Important and even in “Starred” folder (I marked that as STARRED!) but I was not able find that anywhere. After hours of Gmail searching, I made Google search with these phrases : “I discard my draft, where is it now?”, “Email discarded from draft in Gmail. How to restore?”, “How to recover discarded draft in Gmail”, “How do I recover a draft I discarded?” and finally from this topic, I came to know that once I discard a draft email, it’s gone! I found a discussion in quora where the opt was lucky but that luck doesn’t work for me. Some people talked about “undo discard” method but I couldn’t see that option when I discarded my most important Email!
I would like to request Google, please do some improvements with your Gmail’s draft feature as it’s really cool tool for people to save their important information. If it’s possible just remove the “Discard” button from the “Drafts” folder or make that discarded email appear in the Trash folder.
You can keep “Delete” function in the drafts. At least, delete a draft would not make that vanish, people could still retrieve that draft from the trash. So Google please adopt these changes and help people. I would be very happy to see this change.
Guys if you also want this change please post your up-vote using the comments.
Sorry to hear about your loss. May be you should consider using a tool like LastPass or 1Password. Hope you will be able to recover your important credential. Good luck.
That’s a great feedback Aminur Rahman. Yes, I have heard about 1password and LastPass. I think these tools will be my last options. But I will check them out for sure!
