Most probably you have heard about Mailchimp. It’s the leading email sending service provider in the world. More than 1 billion emails are sent through their platform, daily! In this blog post, I am going to discuss “how to sort Mailchimp subscriptions” for a better outcome.
Any user can sign up in Mailchimp and increase subscribers from their website, blog or email campaigns. Free users can have at most 2000 subscribers in a Mailchimp account. If your subscriber’s count exceeds this threshold, you have to pay them certain amount each month for sending emails to all of your subscribers.
I am using free version of Mailchimp. Recently my subscribers count exceeds to 2000. I have to delete 85 subscribers from my list. But how to filter the best subscribers and less interactive subscribers in Mailchimp? That’s an important question you should think before you opt into paid service of Mailchimp.
It is obvious that not all subscribers are equal. Some are very interactive, some are less interactive. When your limit exceeds 2000, you should keep best subscribers in your list and delete less interactive subscribers if you want to proceed with your free plan. If you don’t do so, you have to pay them good amount of money each month (if you like to take their service and send emails to all your subscribers). Free plan is great but you can’t delete their logo from the footer. I don’t have any problem with their branding. So it’s up to you.
How to Filter Mailchimp Subscribers
Mailchimp is great because they make tracking and filtering easy. Suppose, you send 5 emails to your subscribers. One of your subscribers open/click all the emails. In this case, Mailchimp will assign 5* rating to this subscriber. If another subscriber from your list doesn’t open/click any of those 5 emails, Mailchimp will assign 1* or 2* rating. Now it’s time for you to find out -> How to sort Mailchimp subscribers and assign most engaged subscribers to VIP list.
Manual Process: (I am assuming you have small number of active subscribers)
#1: Login to your Mailchimp Account.
#2: Click on “Lists” (I am assuming you have already created a list)
#3: Click on the “List Name“.
#4: Click on “Member Rating” column. You might have to click twice to find out the best subscribers.
#5: You can select subscribers manually or click on “Down Arrow” and then choose “Select Visible“. Please note, you can view 10, 25, 50 or 100 subscribers at a time.
#6: As these subscribers are the most engaged subscribers, you don’t want to delete them from your list at any cost, right? You should treat these subscribers as VIP. Well, Mailchimp does have a feature called “VIP“. After selecting all your engaged subscribers, Click on “Actions” and navigate to VIP and click on “Add“. You might have to repeat this process if you have more than 100 engaged subscribers.
It will ask for final confirmation. Click on “Confirm” button. After that, it will take 1-2 minutes to include these subscribers to VIP list (You can also check video tutorial at the end of this section for step by step instructions). You can refresh the page after 1-2 minutes and you will see a new label called “VIP” just beside their star rating.
Important note, till now you can add up to 5,000 subscribers as VIPs across all lists in a MailChimp account. 5000 sounds pretty big to me but I believe there are several Mailchimp accounts which have over 20 million subscribers. Out of 20 million subscribers, if you sort for the best subscribers, I am pretty sure that count will be bigger than 20K. In this scenario, account owner can’t add more than 5,000 subscribers as VIPs which is pretty bad for them.
Now you can create a new campaign (may be promotional offer, special discount, new feature, giveaways, gifts or press releases) and send only to VIPs instead of all subscribers. That’s the beauty of VIPs feature in Mailchimp!
Watch this video tutorial if you want to go ahead with Manual process.
