In this tutorial I am going to show, how can you set up Google Analytics plugin in WordPress blog. You can easily install a plugin called Google Analytics by Kevin Sylvestre and set up Google Analytics tracking code with this plugin.
Many of you might think why not choose Yoast analytics plugin? Well the answer is, we are not going to use Yoast Google Analytics plugin as some members submitted several bad reviews about their recent update. I must agree that, Yoast analytics plugin has so many advanced features and I would be happy to use this plugin. But at the same time I am most curious to install plugins that will not break the layout of my site.
How to Setup Google Analytics Plugin in WordPress Blog
Step 1: Login to your wordpress admin panel
Step 2: Click on “Add New” under plugins
Step 3: Type “Google Analytics” in the plugin search box and hit enter button of your keyboard.
Step 4: Look for Google Analytics by Kevin Sylvestre. Once found click on “Install Now” button and then activate the plugin.
Step 5: Go to Settings->Google Analytics and replace default web property ID with your Google Analytics Tracking ID.
I am not going to say it’s done now! The process is not finished yet. Please note, Google Analytics by Kevin Sylvestre uses an older version of Google Analytics. You need to manually change the javascript codes to update it to Universal Analytics which Google recommends. Don’t worry it’s very easy and you can do it! Just follow the following steps.
Step 6: You need to download googleanalytics.php file. You can download this file with the help of Filezilla or similar FTP software. Another method, you can directly login to your host panel and download the file from wp-content -> plugins -> google analytics -> googleanalytics.php
Step 7:
Open googleanalytics.php file with notepad++ or wordpad or any other code editor software.
Step 8: Closely check the highlighted text in above image. If you have opened googleanalytics.php file in Notepad++ then check 43-52 lines of codes. These codes will be replaced by the following codes

Step 9: Now save the file and upload it to its desired location: wp-content -> plugins -> google analytics -> googleanalytics.php
Step 10: The process is now complete. You have successfully installed Google Analytics wordpress plugin by Kevin Sylvestre and updated it to universal analytics. You can now check your wordpress website’s/blog’s source code. Following one is mine
